A pricing calculator for custom products reads what the shopper enters, like a width, a material and a quantity. It works out the price, then sends that exact price to the cart. Appify Custom Product Options does this inside your Shopify store, with no code. You install the app, turn on its app embed and add one block in the theme editor.
It puts the calculator on your product page, updates the price as the shopper fills it in, and adds the product to the cart as a normal cart line with the calculated price and every choice attached. Chat with AI can build the calculator from a plain description.
What does a pricing calculator for custom products have to read?
Three kinds of input, and a calculator that misses one leaves you quoting by email or rounding your prices to fit the software.
Measurements the shopper types
A sign is 24 by 36 inches. A blind is 46 inches wide. A fabric order is 3.5 yards.
A dropdown can't hold every size a shopper might type.
In Appify Custom Product Options you add a measurement field with its unit, a minimum, a maximum and a step. The price comes from a formula such as width times height times the material's rate, and it updates as the shopper types.
No variants get created. The shopper's size is priced as entered, not rounded to the nearest one you saved. Three worked examples, from banners to blinds, are in how to price custom products with multiple options and dimensions.
Choices that change the price
Material, finish, a rush option, a mounting type. Each choice can add an amount, add a percentage, or feed its own rate into the formula. One choice can also change another field's minimum, maximum or step, or hide the choices that don't apply.
Quantity, and the rules around the price
The base price is rarely the whole quote. These sit around it:
- Quantity discounts by quantity alone, or by quantity and size together, so 100 small stickers and 100 large ones get different breaks. They apply automatically at checkout, with no discount code.
- Fixed fees such as a setup charge, or a rush fee that only applies when the shopper picks Rush.
- Price adjustments like "add 15% for premium material", kept out of the main formula so it stays readable.
- A minimum and maximum price, so a tiny order still covers your setup time.
If your prices live in a grid, with width down the side and height across the top, pricing tables hold it. The calculator can match a row exactly, take the nearest row up or down, or interpolate between rows. The guide to pricing from a rate sheet goes through the options.
Where can the calculator go on your Shopify store?
On the product page by default. The calculator sits where the options would, and the theme's own Add to Cart button sends the product to the cart.
It can also sit on a landing page, a collection page, a blog post or the homepage. Pick the product it adds to the cart and shoppers can still buy from there. If you only want an estimate on the page, leave the product out.
Two guides cover this in full: putting a pricing calculator on any Shopify page and landing and collection pages.
Connecting it needs no code. The installation guide shows each theme step.
How does the price reach the cart and the order?
With checkout pricing, the calculated total replaces the product's Shopify price automatically. There's nothing to set up.
The product goes through the cart as one normal line. The shopper's choices go with it onto the order, so whoever makes the product sees the width, height and material next to the product name.
If the price looks off, click Price looks wrong? under the preview price. The Troubleshoot tab opens with those exact choices loaded, shows what every part of the formula is worth, and names the likely fix. You can also tell Chat with AI what's off, such as "the Rush fee never adds for 25 pieces".
The configuration survives the order. Shoppers can change it with Edit options in the cart, get it back from an abandoned checkout with Restore your cart, or repeat it with Appify Reorder.
How do you start: a template or Chat with AI?
You don't have to write the formula yourself. Two ways in:
- Start from a template. The Templates catalog in the app holds ready-made calculators. Preview one, install it as a draft, link your products, and adjust it.
- Describe it to Chat with AI. Chat with AI sits beside the calculator editor. You describe what you sell in plain English, and it adds the options, pricing and rules while the live preview updates.
A message like this is enough to begin:
"I make custom signs. Options: width (6 to 48 inches), height (6 to 36 inches), material (acrylic, wood, metal), mounting holes (yes/no). Price = width × height × material rate."
That gives you four options with the right field types and a pricing formula. From there you keep talking: "add a mounting-type dropdown", "hide the Rush option for the largest sizes".
- Already have a price sheet? Attach the CSV or Excel file and it builds the pricing from it. See how to turn your pricing spreadsheet into a Shopify pricing system.
- Want it to match your store? Ask for colors and borders, or attach a screenshot of the look you want.
- Want to understand a formula? Explain formula walks through it step by step in plain English.
Everything the AI writes stays editable by hand.
What happens when the store grows?
Most stores start with a size and a material. Then come artwork uploads, a second language, a shop in another currency.
When shoppers design their own product, the built-in Product Designer turns the saved design into print-ready files on the order. Every plan of Appify Custom Product Options includes every feature, so growing means turning things on, not switching apps. Prices convert through Shopify Markets on their own, and the calculator can run in up to 10 languages, with AI filling in every missing translation at once.
