Inside a Shopify Curtain Track Calculator: Wall or Ceiling Mount, Priced by Length

A ceiling-mounted and a wall-mounted curtain track in different finishes beside a mockup card with finish swatches, a wall or ceiling choice and a length field with a ruler

This curtain track calculator prices a track from how it's mounted and how long it is. The shopper picks wall or ceiling mounting, types a length in inches, and the total updates as they go. One price formula adds the mount and the length together.

This is a look inside the Wall & Ceiling Curtain track calculator on our Shopify demo store. It's built with Appify Custom Product Options.

Our curtain rod breakdown prices a rod with finials. This one prices a track, where the way it's fixed to the room sets the starting price. For the fabric side, see the made-to-measure curtain breakdown.

What it does

The calculator is one page with four options: color (six finishes), mount type (wall or ceiling), length in inches, and an optional room label. The length starts at 12 inches, so the shopper sees a real price the moment the page opens.

In plain words, the track price is a starting amount that depends on the mount, plus a rate for every inch. The color and the room label add nothing.

Why a curtain track calculator is hard to build, and how Appify Custom Product Options handles it

  • The starting price depends on a choice, and the rest depends on a measurement. Here one total price formula adds both: the mount price plus the length times the rate.
  • Wall and ceiling tracks don't cost the same. Each mount type carries its own price on its own button, so the shopper never works it out.
  • The length has to stay in a range you can make. The length field has a minimum and a maximum, so a shopper can't order a track shorter or longer than you sell.
  • Finish should be a choice, not a price change. Six colors sit on swatches with no price on them, so adding a seventh finish never touches the formula.
  • The details have to travel with the order. Color, mount, length and room label all reach the cart line and the order. Reordering later brings every choice back.

One price, worked out

Here's a black track, ceiling mounted, 120 inches long, labeled "Living room", with prices in dollars. The number comes straight from the calculator's price summary.

  • Mount: ceiling mounting is 159.
  • Length: 120 inches at 2.50 an inch comes to 300.
  • Total: 459.00.

Switch only the mount to wall and the total drops by 20. Change only the length and it moves by 2.50 for every inch.

The design decisions

One formula for the whole price

The calculator's total price formula reads the mount type and the typed length. It adds the price of the chosen mount to the length times 2.50. Nothing else in the calculator needs a formula.

You don't have to write it yourself. Tell Chat with AI your two prices and your rate, and it writes the line.

Mount prices sit on the buttons

Wall and Ceiling are two buttons. Each has a price in its row of the option's values and pricing table, 139 for wall and 159 for ceiling. The formula picks up whichever one the shopper chose.

To change a mount price, you change one number on one button.

Choice prices and a typed measurement in one formula. A fixed amount on a button and a rate on a typed length are two different kinds of price. Here they add up in one place, so the total never needs a variant for every combination.

Length is a typed number with a range

Length is a single measurement option in inches. It takes whole numbers from 12 to 216, so every length the shopper can type is one you can cut.

The price formula reads that same number.

Color is a swatch with no price

Color is a swatch option with six round chips: White, Black, Chrome, Brass, Satin Nickel and Antique Bronze. White is selected to start. The labels stay visible under each chip.

No price is attached, so the choice only records what the shopper wants.

The summary shows the total

The price summary shows one line, the total. With a price this simple, a breakdown would only repeat what the buttons already say.

The room label is a plain text box

The last option is an optional text box with no price. It's the shopper's note for which room the track is for, and it travels with the order like any other choice.

What arrives with the order

The calculated price goes to checkout. Cart properties carry the color, mount type, length and room label, so the person packing the order sees exactly what was chosen. The same details show on the app's Orders page.

When a customer comes back for a second track, Appify Reorder brings the first one back with every choice filled in, where Shopify's own Buy again drops them.

Make it yours

  • Change the rate on long tracks. A pricing table keyed on length can step the per-inch rate down past a set size, and the formula can read it.
  • Sell the hardware with it. Brackets, end caps and glides can be linked add-on products that sit beside the track in the cart.
  • Add shipping weight and a SKU. A weight formula can read the length, and custom SKU rules can build a code from the color and the mount.

Ask Chat with AI to build it in your own words. For example:

"Build a curtain track calculator."

"Add a Color option with swatches: White, Black, Chrome, Brass, Satin Nickel and Antique Bronze."

"Add a Mount Type option with two buttons: Wall priced at 139 and Ceiling priced at 159."

"Add a Length option in inches, whole numbers from 12 to 216."

"Set the total price to the mount price plus 2.50 for every inch of length."

"Add an optional Room Label text box."

Chat with AI writes the options, the prices and the formula. Swap in your own prices, then check the total in the preview before you publish.

FAQ

How do you price a curtain track by length on Shopify?

Add a length option and use a total price formula that multiplies the length by your rate. Add the mount or any other starting price in the same formula.

Can wall and ceiling mounting have different prices?

Yes. Put a price on each mount button, then have the formula add the one the shopper picked.

Can I limit how short or long a track can be?

Yes. The length option has a minimum and a maximum, so shoppers can only type lengths you sell.

Do I need a variant for every color, mount and length?

No. The color, mount and length come from the calculator's options, and the price from the formula and the choice prices.

Every mount and every length, priced as you sell it.
