Inside a Shopify Sticker Calculator That Previews the Finish: Holographic, Glitter and Clear

Holographic, glitter or clear? A sticker buyer can't feel the stock through a screen. This calculator lets them see it: the size, shape, color and material they pick each change the sticker in the preview, down to the cut line and the finish. They upload their art, see it as the finished sticker in one compact window, and approve it there.

This is a look inside the Stickers Quick Preview calculator on our Shopify demo store. It's built with Appify Custom Product Options.

The price works the same way as the Stickers by Buttons calculator, so this article spends its time on the preview. For running a whole sticker shop, see the sticker design studio guide.

What it does

The shopper picks a size, a shape, a color and a material, then a quantity. The total and the price per sticker sit right under the quantity cards. Then they click Preview Design.

Size, shape, color, material and quantity, then Preview Design.

A compact Quick Preview window opens. It asks for their artwork and shows it back as the sticker they just configured, with the approval step right underneath.

The Preview your design window showing uploaded artwork as a holographic die-cut sticker with its size in inches, Remove background and Adjust your design buttons, and the question Do you approve this design with I approve this design, I need a manual proof and Add note

In plain words, the price is the sticker's price for its size, times the quantity, minus the percentage for that quantity. Shape, color and material change how the sticker looks, not what it costs.

Why a sticker preview is hard to build, and how Appify Custom Product Options handles it

  • The preview has to match the order. A shopper who picks 3 inches expects a 3 inch sticker on screen. Here the size choice sets the canvas size directly, through a canvas binding. Most options apps stop at an upload field or a personalizer, with no design canvas to bind to.
  • A die-cut sticker follows the artwork. The cut line can't be a preset shape. Choosing Die cut traces the outline from the customer's own upload with an auto die-cut line. Circle and Square switch to those shapes.
  • Finishes are the upsell, and they're invisible in a list. "Holographic" is a word until the shopper sees it. Each material maps to a preview effect laid over their design.
  • Clear stickers look wrong on a white canvas. The Clear swatch makes the background transparent, so the artwork sits on a checkerboard the way it will sit on clear stock.
  • Approving a design shouldn't take an editor. A shopper with finished artwork wants to upload it, see the sticker and approve it. Quick Preview does all three in one compact window. Customers who want to design from scratch still get the full Designer, one button away.
  • The price still has to be right. The size curve and nine quantity breaks price every card before the shopper clicks it, and the price stays visible inside the Designer.
  • The choices have to survive the order. Customers can change the sticker in the cart, and reordering brings the whole sticker back.

One price, worked out

Here's a 3 inch holographic circle sticker, 500 of them, with prices in dollars. The numbers come straight from the calculator, and the Designer shows the same total.

  • Size: 3 inches is 9 square inches, so the price per sticker is 1.86.
  • Quantity: 500 stickers at 1.86 comes to 930 before any discount.
  • Discount: the 500 break takes 45 percent off.
  • Total: 511.50, or 1.02 per sticker.

Switch Holographic to Matte and the price doesn't move. Only the preview changes.

The design decisions

The size buttons drive the price and the canvas

Each size button holds its area (4, 9, 16 or 25 square inches). The total price formula looks that area up in a pricing table and multiplies by the quantity.

The same button is bound to the artboard, so 3 inches opens a 3 by 3 inch canvas. One choice, two jobs, and they can't disagree.

Shape sets the cut line

The Shape buttons are bound to the cut line. Die cut traces the customer's artwork. Circle and Square use preset shapes, and Square has rounded corners.

The customer sees the dashed trim line on the canvas, so they know where the cut falls before they pay.

Material sets the finish preview

The six material swatches map to finishes. Matte, Glossy, Ice (cracked ice), Glitter and Prismatic use built-in effects. Holographic uses an overlay image the merchant uploaded, with its own blend and opacity.

The customer taps Preview in the Designer and sees their artwork with that finish on it. The effect is for the screen only and never reaches the print file.

The finish sells itself once it's on their artwork. A holographic swatch is a small picture. Their own design shimmering at real size is a reason to choose it.

Color sets the background, including clear

Each color swatch fills the sticker's background on the canvas. Clear switches the background to transparent instead.

The last swatch is a Picker: a rainbow wheel where the customer chooses any color. It needs no second option and no rule, and the cart shows the color they picked.

Quick Preview: upload, see it, approve it

A shopper with finished artwork doesn't need a full editor. They need to see their file as the sticker and say yes.

Preview Design opens one compact window. The shopper uploads their file and it comes back as the sticker: cut to the shape they chose, in the finish they chose, with its finished size underneath. Remove background sits right there for a photo that needs cutting out.

The approval is in the same window. Under Do you approve this design? the shopper picks I approve this design, or I need a manual proof to have your team check it first. Add note leaves a message that arrives on the order as Production Notes. Then they tick I have reviewed and approve my design, and Done saves it.

Customers can still design the whole sticker themselves

Quick Preview is the short path, not the only one. Adjust your design opens the full-screen Product Designer on the same artwork, and a customer who wants to build the sticker from scratch can do it all there.

  • Add to the artwork. Text, clipart, shapes and frames go on the canvas, and more images can be uploaded.
  • Edit what's there. Crop, draw freehand, fine-tune the image or add a filter.
  • Change the sticker. The right panel lists size, shape, color, material and quantity with the live price. A customer can try Glitter on their actual artwork, check the price, and switch back.
  • Control the cut. On a die-cut sticker, Update cut outline redraws the cut line around the finished design.

When they're done, Review Design takes them to the same approval step.

Prices on every quantity card

The quantity option has eight fixed amounts and a Custom amount. Inline pricing shows the total and the price each on every card, with the discount as a badge. Nine quantity discount rules run from 25 percent off at 100 stickers to 85 percent at 10,000.

What arrives with the order

The calculated price goes to checkout on one cart line. Cart properties carry the size, shape, color, material and quantity. When the customer saves, the app makes the production files: a proof image, a print-ready PNG, a cut-line SVG that follows the traced die-cut, and a production manifest. They reach the order through one Design Files link, and the app's Orders page shows the order with its choices.

Customers can tap Edit options in the cart to try another finish without starting over. Later, Appify Reorder brings the sticker back with every choice filled in, where Shopify's own Buy again drops them.

Make it yours

  • Charge for the premium finishes. Give Holographic, Glitter and Prismatic a price adjustment that adds a percentage, and the preview and the price move together.
  • Let customers adjust the outline. A Rounded or Star cut line can show the customer a slider for the corner radius or the points, so they shape the sticker themselves.
  • Add a scene. A Scene frames the sticker in a mockup, such as a laptop lid, without touching the print file.

Ask Chat with AI to build the options and pricing in your own words, and attach your size-to-price table as a CSV or Excel file. For example:

"Build a sticker calculator. Add size buttons for 2, 3, 4 and 5 inches, priced by area: 4, 9, 16 and 25 square inches. Price each sticker from the attached table of area against price, blending between rows. Add shape buttons with pictures: Die cut, Circle and Square. Add color swatches with Clear first and a custom color last. Add material swatches: Matte, Glossy, Ice, Holographic, Glitter and Prismatic. Add quantity cards for 20, 50, 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000, plus a custom amount, showing the total and the price each. Multiply the price by the quantity. Take 25 percent off at 100, 30 at 200, 35 at 300, 45 at 500, 65 at 1000, 70 at 2000, 75 at 3000, 80 at 5000 and 85 at 10000."

Then add the Product Designer option and set its bindings in Step 5: size to the artboard, shape to the cut line, color to the background and material to the preview effect. Check it in the preview before you publish.

FAQ

Can customers see a holographic or glitter finish before they buy?

Yes. Map each material choice to a preview effect, and the customer sees it on their own design when they tap Preview in the Designer. The effect never prints.

How do you show a clear sticker on Shopify?

Map the clear choice to a transparent background. The canvas shows a checkerboard behind the artwork, the way it will look on clear stock.

Can the die-cut line follow the customer's artwork?

Yes. Map the die-cut choice to the auto cut line, and it's traced from the customer's upload.

What is the Quick Preview window?

A compact window that opens from Preview Design. The customer uploads their artwork, sees it as the finished sticker, and approves it or asks for a manual proof, without opening the full Designer.

Can customers still design the sticker themselves?

Yes. Adjust your design opens the full-screen Designer, where they can add text, clipart, shapes and frames, crop or draw, change any option, and then review and approve.

Does the preview change the price?

Not in this demo. Size and quantity set the price. Add a price adjustment to a material if your finishes cost more.

Let them see the shimmer before they pay.
