Fabric sells by the yard, and flooring ships by the carton. Either way, the customer only knows their measurements.
A measurement pricing app turns those measurements into a price on the product page. The apps below all do that much. Where they differ is everything after the first multiplication.
Appify Custom Product Options is the strongest pick. It prices by length, area or a whole room, reads your rate sheets, and rounds up to what you ship. AI builds the setup for you, and every plan includes every feature.
SE: Option Price Calculator is another strong choice, built calculator-first. Below are the rest of the field, a side-by-side table, and a checklist to run against any app.
What should a measurement pricing app handle?
- The way you measure. A length for fabric, an area for a rug, a width and drop for curtains, a whole room for flooring.
- A rate for each material. Linen and cotton rarely cost the same per yard.
- Rounding to what you ship. Whole cartons or whole yards.
- Waste. Extra material added before the rounding, not after.
- The rules around the price. Minimums, fees and discounts that grow with the order.
- A price you can check. When a number looks wrong, can you see why?
The first four decide whether an app can price your product. The last two decide how much of your own time it costs.
1. Appify Custom Product Options: every measurement, priced your way
Appify Custom Product Options treats the price as a calculation, not a list of add-on prices.
Every way a customer can measure
Each is its own measurement field type:
- Length: yards of fabric, feet of trim, metres of rope, with the unit you sell in.
- Area: square feet or square metres, for customers who already know their number.
- Dimensions: width and length together, each with its own minimum, maximum and step.
- Room map: the customer walks each wall of a room, including L-shapes and angled walls, and adds as many rooms as the job needs. The price comes from the total area, the total perimeter or the number of rooms.
On the room map flooring demo, a switch opens the room calculator. The customer draws their rooms, and the total area fills in the square footage and the box count for them.
Your rates, in whatever shape they take
Any option can carry its own formula, and so can the final price. Pricing variables break the math into named steps like AREA or YARDS, and any formula or rule can reuse them.
A rate per material goes in a pricing table. Linen, cotton and velvet each get a row, and the formula reads the rate for the fabric the customer picked.
A supplier grid works too. Sizes between the columns can round up, round down, take the nearest, or blend in proportion. You choose that per table.
Round up to what you actually ship
Rounding functions turn 13.9 cartons into 14, and 3.2 yards into 4 if you only cut whole yards. Waste goes into the formula before the rounding, so the customer never pays for a carton they didn't need.
See it on the box or area flooring demo. Customers type the square footage or the number of boxes, whichever they know, and the other one fills in. Tick the waste box and it adds 10% before rounding up.
The box count goes into the cart as the order quantity, so the customer buys whole boxes, the way you stock them.
Here's a rug, with made-up prices in dollars. A 5 by 8 foot rug is 40 square feet, so at 9 a square foot it's 360.
Add a minimum price, and a small rug still covers your costs.
Every pricing rule around the formula
- Quantity discounts: by quantity, or by quantity and a size like width or area. Percent off, amount off, or a target unit price.
- Fixed fees: flat or formula-driven, like a cutting fee. Discounts never reduce them.
- Minimum and maximum price: set on the total, or with MAX() inside a formula.
- Price adjustments: a flat charge once the area passes a size you set, for example.
- Visibility and value rules: show a lining choice only for curtains, or fill in a waste percentage from the layout.
- Weight and SKU: shipping weight from its own formula, and a SKU built from the choices.
The formula is the product price. Rates per material, room shapes, rounding, waste, fees and minimums all feed one calculated price on one native cart line. No size ever becomes a new variant.
AI builds it, and keeps it current
Chat with AI sits beside the editor on every tab. Describe your pricing in a sentence or two:
"I sell fabric by the yard. Customer picks fabric type and enters yardage. Price per yard depends on the fabric."
It adds a fabric dropdown, a number input for the yardage and a table-based pricing formula.
- Start from your price sheet: attach a CSV or Excel file and it builds the rate tables.
- Write and explain formulas: Describe with AI turns plain English into a formula. Explain formula turns it back.
- Fix a wrong price: click Price looks wrong? under the preview. The Troubleshoot tab shows the value of every step, from the area to the round-up.
- Everything around the price: translations, styling and swatch icons for each material.
After the order
Customers can tap Edit options in the cart to fix a measurement without starting over. Past orders come back with Appify Reorder, and abandoned carts come back through a Restore your cart link, measurements included. Shopify's own Buy again button drops them.
Prices convert automatically with Shopify Markets, and each calculator can run in up to 10 languages.
2. SE: Option Price Calculator, calculator-first pricing
SE: Option Price Calculator is another strong choice. It uses formulas to price options, quantity, weight and discounts, with pricing tables and lookups for rate sheets.
It's built for sticker, blind, wallpaper, cabinet, fabric and parts stores, and it supports Shopify Markets currency conversion. For the broader platform, start with Appify Custom Product Options. That's where the AI and the room measuring live.
What about the other measurement apps?
You'll meet several more apps while searching, and most of them do the first multiplication well. Here's what each one covers.
3. Apippa‑Custom Price Calculator
Apippa prices from measurements the customer enters: size, area, length, weight or quantity. It handles tiered rates and size-band price grids from a spreadsheet, and its AI builds a basic calculator from a description.
The formulas stay basic. There's no function library, pricing variables or formula troubleshooting.
Where it fits: straightforward size pricing on the product page. The same jobs live inside Appify Custom Product Options, with the full formula engine, room measuring and the post-purchase tools on top. Choosing it is choosing fewer features, not different ones.
4. Price Calculator by Measure
Price Calculator by Measure is built for products sold by area, length or volume: flooring, tiles, paint, fabric, gravel. It works in imperial and metric units, sells by units or boxes, and can add a margin for waste or damage to the estimate.
It doesn't use formulas or pricing tables.
Where it fits: a simple area or length estimate. Appify Custom Product Options does the same job, then adds room shapes, a rate table per material, pricing rules and AI setup.
5. M Custom Size Price Calculator and MS Custom SizePrice Calculator
These two similarly named apps both price a product from height and width, or by quantity. Both show the product at the custom size before purchase, and the MS app adds a minimum price.
Where it fits: one rate across a custom size, like a poster or a piece of carpet. Appify Custom Product Options covers that with a single formula, and keeps going when your pricing needs a second rate.
6. Options Price Calculator
Options Price Calculator by Online Origins covers options plus formulas. Its formula builder handles basic arithmetic with rounding and math helpers, and conditional formulas need its higher plan. Its AI drafts fields and formulas from a description.
Where it fits: options plus basic formula pricing. Appify Custom Product Options covers those jobs on every plan, with the full function library, pricing rules, and AI that explains and fixes formulas.
7. PC Price Calculator by Formula
PC Price Calculator by Formula handles basic formulas like length times width for products sold by volume, length or weight, with round-up figures.
Where it fits: a basic formula price from product dimensions. Appify Custom Product Options does the same, with rate tables, pricing rules, AI setup and the full order lifecycle on top.

FAQ
What is measurement-based pricing on Shopify?
The customer types a size, like yards of fabric or a rug's width and length, and the price is worked out from it on the product page, with no variant for every size.
Can I charge a different rate for each fabric or material?
Yes. In Appify Custom Product Options, a pricing table holds a rate per material, and the formula reads the rate for the one the customer picked.
Can the price round up to whole cartons or yards?
Yes. A rounding function turns 13.9 cartons into 14. Add waste before the rounding so the customer doesn't pay for an extra carton.
Can customers measure an L-shaped room?
Yes. The Room map option lets them walk each wall, start from an L-shape, and add more rooms. The price can come from the total area, the perimeter or the number of rooms.
Can I use my supplier's price grid?
Yes. Attach the spreadsheet to Chat with AI and it builds the pricing table. Sizes between the columns can round up, round down or blend.
Do I need to write formulas?
No. Describe how you price to Chat with AI and it writes the formulas, options and rules. You can still edit them by hand.
Will every size create a new variant?
No. Options and pricing live outside Shopify's variant system, and the order goes through your theme's normal add to cart.
