The Custom Stickers demo prices a sticker by its area and the number ordered, then opens a design editor already set to the size the customer chose. It runs on Appify Custom Product Options.
A 3 by 3 inch holographic circle, 400 pieces, totals 486.00 with prices in dollars. This article shows how the calculator gets there and why it is built that way.
What does the Custom Stickers calculator do?
The customer picks a size, a quantity, a finish and a shape. Size is a list from 1 by 1 to 6 by 6 inches, plus a Custom size. Finish and shape are picture buttons. An Edit Design button opens the design editor.

Each quantity card shows its own total, and discounted counts carry a badge. The customer sees what 100, 200 or 400 stickers cost before they choose.
Why is a sticker calculator hard to build, and how is it handled?
- The price follows the area. A 4 inch sticker is four times the size of a 2 inch one, not twice. Each size choice carries its area, and a typed size becomes an area too, so one rule prices every size.
- A typed size needs the same rule as a listed one. A fixed amount on each size cannot price a size the customer types. Here the Custom size multiplies the typed width by the typed height and feeds the same formula.
- The quantity sits in the same formula. The total is area times rate times count, before the discount comes off.
- The discount ladder has to be readable. Ten breaks from 100 to 5000 pieces, and each card shows the saving, so a customer can see where the next break is.
- The customer wants to see the sticker, not only the price. Most options apps have a text or photo personalizer at best. A design canvas at real size, with a cut line, is rarer. Here the size choice sets the canvas, and the shape and finish choices shape the cut line and the preview.
- The configuration survives the order. Every choice goes to the cart and the order, and the customer can change it from the cart with Edit options.
How is one price worked out?
Take a 3 by 3 inch holographic circle, 400 of them.
| Step | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Area | 3 x 3 inches | 9 square inches |
| Price each | 9 x 0.15 per square inch | 1.35 |
| Quantity discount | The 400 break | 10% off |
| Total | The calculator's own total | 486.00, or 1.22 each |

What are the design decisions behind it?
Each size choice carries its area
The choices hold 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 and 36, the area of each size in square inches. The Custom size option holds the typed width times the typed height. The price formula reads whichever one is chosen, so presets and typed sizes never need separate rules.
Typed size appears only for Custom
The width and height fields use a Show if rule: they appear when the size is Custom. Each runs from 1 to 6 inches, so a typed size stays within the range of the listed sizes. A hidden option is left out of the price, so a preset customer is never charged for a size they did not type.
One total price formula
The total price formula is the size's area times 0.15 times the quantity. It is set to produce a total, with the quantity already inside it. To change your rate, change one number.
One discount ladder for every size
The quantity discount rules use the simple 1D mode: the discount depends on the quantity alone. Each break is a percentage off the line, and it applies per cart line.
| From this many pieces | Discount |
|---|---|
| 100 | 5% off |
| 200 | 7.5% off |
| 400 | 10% off |
| 500 | 12.5% off |
| 750 | 15% off |
| 1000 | 20% off |
| 2000 | 25% off |
| 3000 | 30% off |
| 4000 | 35% off |
| 5000 | 40% off |
Prices on the quantity cards
The quantity option is set to show price and discount inline, as a total. That is what puts a total and a green badge beside each card. The price summary below shows the price for one sticker with the undiscounted figure struck through.
Size, shape and finish reach the canvas
The Edit Design button opens the Product Designer. Three canvas bindings link the choices to it:
- Size sets the artboard. Pick 4 by 4 and the canvas is 4 by 4 inches. A typed custom size sets it too.
- Shape can set the cut line. Circle and Oval cut to those shapes, and Cut to Outline follows the artwork.
- Finish sets the look in Preview. Cracked Ice and Pixie Dust each get their own preview effect. It is only a preview and does not appear in the print files.
The editor shows the same options and the live price, so the customer can change size or quantity without leaving it.
A review step before the design is saved
The Designer has a design review step. The customer taps Review Design, reads a short checklist (clear text, correct spelling, sharp images) and ticks "I have reviewed and approve my design" before saving. An Add note button lets them leave production notes.
What arrives with the order?
The cart line carries the size, quantity, finish, shape and a Design Files link. That link opens a page with the downloads: the print-ready PNG, the cut-line SVG and a production manifest.
Any note the customer left shows as Production Notes. The same line appears in the Orders tab with its options.
A customer who wants 800 instead of 400 taps Edit options in the cart. Their choices reopen filled in, and the price follows. The guide to editing in the cart has the setup.
How can you make it yours?
- Add a charge for a finish. Give holographic its own charge or its own rate. The sticker calculator that prices by size and finish shows one way.
- Make big stickers discount deeper. Switch the ladder to the 2D mode so the percentage depends on size as well as quantity, as in the neon sticker calculator.
- Price from a rate sheet. Swap the single rate for a table of prices by size, as in the sticker calculator that prices by size and quantity.
- Sell more than stickers. The same app can run your wallpaper, signs and banners. See how to run a print shop that sells stickers, wallpaper, signs and banners from one Shopify store.
