This curtain rod calculator prices a rod from its length and its finials. The shopper picks a finish, and the calculator offers only the finials made in that finish. A flat amount plus a rate per inch sets the rod price, and each finial adds its own.
This is a look inside the Curtain Rods calculator on our Shopify demo store. It's built with Appify Custom Product Options.
Our made-to-measure curtain breakdown prices the fabric. This one prices the hardware that holds it up. If you'd rather sell rods as separate products next to your curtains, the guide to selling fabric, rugs and curtains by size shows how.
What it does
The calculator is one page with four options: color (black, brushed gold or brushed silver), finials (end cap, ellipse, crown or crystal ball), length in inches, and an optional room label. Color and finials use pictures, so the shopper sees the finial before they pay.
In plain words, the rod price is a flat amount plus a rate for every inch. The finials add their own price on top, and the color and room label add nothing.
Why a curtain rod calculator is hard to build, and how Appify Custom Product Options handles it
- The rod price has a flat part and a per-inch part. A basic options app gives a length one rate, or puts a fixed amount on a choice. Here one formula on the length option holds both: 225 plus 3.50 for every inch.
- Each finial has its own price, and one costs nothing. The end cap is included. The ellipse adds 20, the crown 25 and the crystal ball 30. Every price sits on its own picture choice.
- The finials depend on the finish. Pick brushed gold and only the gold finials appear. Otherwise a shopper could build a rod you don't make. Rules that hide choices based on another choice handle it.
- The length has to be one clear number. The label says the length includes the finials and the unit is inches. The shopper can't read it two ways.
- The details have to travel with the order. Finish, finials, length and room label all reach the cart line and the order. Reordering later brings every choice back.
One price, worked out
Here's a brushed gold rod with crown finials, 60 inches long, labeled "Living room", with prices in dollars. The numbers come straight from the calculator's price summary.
- Rod: 225 plus 60 inches at 3.50 comes to 435.00.
- Finials: the crown adds 25.00.
Change only the length and the rod line moves by 3.50 for every inch. The finials line stays put.
The design decisions
One formula, a flat amount plus a rate
The length option carries its own price formula. It reads the typed length and returns 225 plus the length times 3.50. Nothing else in the calculator needs a formula.
You don't have to write it yourself. Tell Chat with AI your two numbers and it writes the line.
Finial prices sit on the choices
Each finial is a picture choice with a price in its row of the option's values and pricing table. The end cap is 0, so choosing it adds nothing to the total.
The shopper sees four pictures with names. The price lands in the summary when they pick one.
The finish decides which finials appear
The finials option holds a set of the four styles for each finish, with pictures of the finial in that finish.
Rules do the filtering. Each says that when the color is one finish, hide the sets that belong to the others.
One rule per finish, not one per combination. Add a fourth finish and you add one set of finials and one rule. Every finial the shopper sees is one you make.
Length is a typed number with a clear label
Length is a single measurement option in inches. The label reads "Length Includes Finials (inches)", so nobody wonders whether the finials add to it.
The price formula reads that same number.
The summary shows what costs money
The price summary lists two options and the total. The length is renamed "Rod" and the finials option is "Finials". Color and room label don't appear in it.
The room label is a plain text box
The last option is an optional text box with no price. It's the shopper's note for which room the rod is for, and it travels with the order like any other choice.
What arrives with the order
The calculated price goes to checkout. Cart properties carry the color, finials, length and room label, so the person packing the order sees exactly what was chosen. The same details show on the app's Orders page.
When a customer comes back for a second rod, Appify Reorder brings the first one back with every choice filled in, where Shopify's own Buy again drops them.
Make it yours
- Change the rate on long rods. A pricing table keyed on length can step the per-inch rate down past a set size, and a formula can read it.
- Add shipping weight and a SKU. A weight formula can read the length, and custom SKU rules can build a code from the finish and the finial.
- Offer a made-to-order color. Set the last choice of the color swatch to Picker and it shows as a rainbow wheel where the customer picks any color. You don't need a second option or any rules for it.

Ask Chat with AI to build it in your own words. For example:
"Build a curtain rod calculator."
"Add a Color option with picture swatches: Black, Brushed Gold and Brushed Silver."
"Add a Finials option with picture swatches: End Cap, Ellipse, Crown and Crystal Ball, priced at 0, 20, 25 and 30."
"Make a set of finials for each color and show only the set for the chosen color."
"Add a Length option in inches, whole numbers, labeled Length Includes Finials. Price the length at 225 plus 3.50 for every inch."
"Add an optional Room Label text box. In the price summary, show the rod, the finials and the total."
Chat with AI writes the options, the prices and the rules. Add your own rod and finial photos to the swatches, then check the price in the preview before you publish.
FAQ
How do you price a curtain rod by length on Shopify?
Add a length option and give it a formula. A flat amount plus a rate per inch works for most rods. The calculator shows the total as the shopper types the length.
Can finials have their own prices?
Yes. Put a price on each finial choice. A finial that's included can be priced at 0.
Can the finial choices change with the finish?
Yes. Add a set of finials for each finish, then use rules that hide the sets that don't match the chosen color.
Do I need a variant for every finish, finial and length?
No. The finish, finial and length come from the calculator's options, and the price from the formula and the choice prices.
Every rod and finial, priced to the inch.
