A rate sheet is a grid. Sizes run down the side, materials or quantities run across the top, and every cell holds a price.
Here's how to put that grid on a Shopify product page with Appify Custom Product Options. You build it as a pricing table, choose what happens to sizes between the lines, and let the cell feed the rest of the price.
What does a rate sheet setup have to cover?
- Two keys, one price. Width down the side, height across the top, and a price in the cell where they meet.
- Sizes between the lines. Your grid has 24 and 36, and the customer types 30. You decide whether that rounds up, rounds down or blends.
- Choices as keys. Size by material, or material by quantity, not only numbers.
- The table inside the price. A formula reads the cell, then adds a fee, a discount or a minimum.
- Updating it. When your supplier changes prices, how many places do you edit?
- A way to see why. When a price looks off, you can see which cell was read.
The first two decide whether the price is right. The rest decide how much of your week it takes.
Want the setup steps? Here's how to set up formula pricing with pricing tables.
Build the grid like a spreadsheet
Tables live on their own Pricing Tables page and are edited as a spreadsheet-style grid. There are two layouts:
- One key: a choice maps to a rate, like acrylic to its price per square foot.
- Two keys: width down the side, height across the top, and the cell where they meet is the price.
Any pricing formula can read a table, and Chat with AI writes that formula for you.
Choose what happens between the lines
This is where most grids go wrong. Take this made-up panel price grid, in dollars:
| Width / Height | 12 in | 24 in | 36 in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 in | 10 | 16 | 22 |
| 24 in | 18 | 28 | 38 |
| 36 in | 26 | 40 | 54 |
A customer wants a panel 30 inches wide and 24 inches tall. There's no 30 in the grid. The lookup mode you set on the table decides the price:
- Nearest lower: reads the 24 inch row, so the price is 28.
- Nearest upper: reads the 36 inch row, so the price is 40.
- Interpolate: blends the two rows in proportion, so the price is 34.
Exact and Nearest are there too. Quote in supplier bands? Round up. Price in proportion to size? Blend. It's your rule, set once per table.
Use sizes, materials and quantities as keys
The keys don't have to be numbers. A grid can run sizes down the side and materials across the top, so a customer's width and their fabric choice land on one cell.
It can also run choices down the side and quantity breaks across the top. Mixed keys work in every mode.
Let the table feed the rest of the price
The cell you look up is a number a formula can keep using:
- Formulas on any option and on the final price, so a table lookup can be multiplied, rounded or capped.
- Pricing variables, named values like AREA, written once and reused in any formula or rule.
- Quantity discounts by quantity, or by quantity and a size like width or area. Paste your discount sheet in and review it before you save.
- Fixed fees that discounts never reduce, and a minimum or maximum price.
- Weight and SKU from their own formulas.
Need a rate for each material and a grid for each size? Use both. Here's when to use formulas and when to use pricing tables.
The table is the product's price. The cell you look up flows into one calculated price on one native cart line. No size ever becomes a variant.
Update it once, and check it fast
A table created on the main page is global, and any calculator can use it. Change a price in the grid and every calculator that reads it picks the change up the next time it loads.
When a price looks off, click Price looks wrong? under the preview. The Troubleshoot tab shows the row and column that were tried, and whether they hit. If a choice doesn't match a table key, it offers a one-click fix.
Preview in Draft, Saved and Published views first, so a new rate sheet never goes live untested.
Let AI build the tables from your price sheet
Chat with AI sits beside the editor on every tab. Drag a CSV or Excel file onto the chat, or describe your pricing in plain English, and it sets up the options and rate tables.
- Write and explain formulas: Describe with AI turns plain English into a formula. Explain formula turns it back.
- Fix a wrong price: tell the chat what the price should be, and it opens Troubleshoot with your choices filled in.
- Everything around the table: translations, styling, swatch images and rules.

After the order
The grid price survives the order. Customers tap Edit options in the cart to change a size, and the line reprices from the same table.
Appify Reorder brings past orders back with every choice, and a Restore your cart link rebuilds an abandoned cart. Prices convert with Shopify Markets, and each calculator runs in up to 10 languages.

FAQ
What is a 2D pricing table on Shopify?
It's a grid with two keys, such as width and height, that returns one price. In Appify Custom Product Options you build it on the Pricing Tables page, and any formula can read it.
What if the customer's size isn't in the table?
The table's lookup mode decides. It can round up, round down, take the nearest size, or blend between the surrounding sizes in proportion.
Can a table use materials instead of sizes?
Yes. Choices like a material can be the row or column keys, and numbers like a quantity can be the other key.
Can I import my rate sheet?
Attach a CSV or Excel file to Chat with AI and it sets up your options and tables. Quantity discount grids can be pasted in from a spreadsheet.
Do pricing tables work with quantity discounts and fees?
Yes. A looked-up price can be discounted by quantity, or by quantity and size. Fixed fees stay outside the discount, and a minimum or maximum price still applies.
How do I check that a table returns the right price?
Click Price looks wrong? under the preview. The Troubleshoot tab shows the row and column that were read.
