The Stickers by the Step demo prices a sticker from a rate sheet keyed by area, then gives deeper discounts to bigger stickers. It runs on Appify Custom Product Options.
A 3 by 3 inch sticker, 100 pieces, totals 237.50 with prices in dollars. This article shows how the calculator gets there and why it is built that way.
What does the Stickers by the Step calculator do?
The customer picks a size, a shape, a finish and a quantity, then uploads their artwork. Size is a row of buttons from 2 by 2 to 5 by 5 inches, plus a Custom size. The quantity is a row of buttons too.

Each quantity button shows its price, so the customer sees what 100, 200 or 500 cost before they choose.
Why is a sticker calculator hard to build, and how is it handled?
- Price does not grow in a straight line with size. A rate sheet with a price at each size is how many print shops quote. Here the sheet is a pricing table keyed by area, and the calculator reads it.
- A size between two rows still needs a price. The table is set to blend between the rows on either side, so a typed size does not fall off the sheet.
- Big stickers should earn bigger discounts. A discount ladder that looks only at quantity treats a small sticker and a large one alike. Here the ladder also reads the sticker's area.
- The customer has to send artwork. The upload sits in the same calculator, and the preview button opens it in an editor.
- The configuration survives the order. Every choice goes to the cart and the order, and the customer can change it from the cart with Edit options.
How is one price worked out?
Take a 3 by 3 inch gloss sticker, 100 of them.
| Step | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Area | 3 x 3 inches | 9 square inches |
| Price each | The rate sheet row for 9 | 2.50 |
| Subtotal | 2.50 x 100 | 250.00 |
| Quantity discount | The 100 break for this size | 5% off |
| Total | The calculator's own total | 237.50, or 2.38 each |

What are the design decisions behind it?
Each size choice carries its area
The size buttons hold 4, 9, 16 and 25, the area of each size in square inches. The Custom size option holds the typed length times the typed width. The rate sheet reads whichever one is chosen, so presets and typed sizes use the same rule.
Typed size appears only for Custom
The length and width fields use a Show if rule: they appear when the size is Custom. A hidden option is left out of the price, so a preset customer is never charged for a size they did not type.
A rate sheet, blended between rows
The pricing table lists an area in each row and the price of a sticker that size in the next column. Its lookup mode is Interpolate, which blends between the two surrounding rows. A size that is not on the sheet gets a price between its neighbors.
The total price formula is then the rate for the chosen area times the quantity.
A discount ladder that reads size and quantity
The quantity discount rules use the 2D mode. The percentage depends on the quantity and on the sticker's area, and it applies per cart line. There are three size bands, and the largest stickers get the deepest breaks.
| From this many pieces | Small band | Medium band | Large band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 5% off | 5% off | 10% off |
| 200 | 10% off | 10% off | 15% off |
| 500 | 25% off | 30% off | 35% off |
| 1000 | 40% off | 45% off | 50% off |
Prices on the quantity buttons
The quantity option is set to show price inline. That puts a price beside each button, so the choice is made with the number in view.
Artwork goes into an editor
The artwork upload takes images and PDFs. The Preview Sticker button is linked to that upload, so it opens Image Edit mode for the customer's file. They can crop, filter, finetune and annotate it before ordering.
What arrives with the order?
The cart line carries the size, shape, finish and quantity, and the order shows the same options in the Orders tab.
A customer who wants 200 instead of 100 taps Edit options in the cart. Their choices reopen filled in, and the price follows. The guide to editing in the cart has the setup.
How can you make it yours?
- Use your own rate sheet. Replace the rows with your prices. If you already have it in a spreadsheet, see how to import an Excel or CSV pricing sheet.
- Change the size bands. Move the area limits or add a fourth band, so your biggest stickers get their own ladder.
- Let customers design in a canvas. Link the preview button to a design canvas instead, as in the Custom Stickers calculator, which opens a design editor.
- Sell more than stickers. The same app can run your wallpaper, signs and banners. See how to run a print shop from one Shopify store.

FAQ
How is the Stickers by the Step price calculated?
The rate sheet gives a price for the sticker's area, which is multiplied by the quantity. A percentage comes off, and it depends on the quantity and the size.
What if a size is not on the rate sheet?
The table blends between the rows on either side, so a typed size still gets a price.
Can customers type their own size?
Yes. Choosing Custom size opens length and width fields, and the price comes from the area they make.
Can bigger stickers get bigger discounts?
Yes. The 2D quantity discount lets the percentage depend on both the quantity and the area.
Can customers see the price for each quantity before choosing?
Yes. The quantity buttons show a price beside each count.
